Hale County Meals on Wheels is seeking volunteers who are over the age of 18 and have a valid driver’s license to help with meal delivery.

We presently have 10 routes, taking 30-40 minutes each.  Volunteers drive their private vehicles and furnish their own gas along each of the agency’s routes.

Volunteer Categories:

a.     Regular – Volunteers adopt a route that they deliver on a regularly scheduled basis.
b.     Substitute – Volunteers not scheduled on a regular basis but willing to deliver any route on days that drivers are needed.
c.     Emergency – Volunteers willing to deliver any route LAST MINUTE in an emergency.

Driver Qualifications:

a.         A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
b.         Personal automobile insurance.
c.         Patience and understanding with seniors and individuals with disabilities.
d.         Must be available to pick up meals by 11:00 a.m.  Drivers must call and let us know at least 24 hours in advance if they will be unable to deliver their route so that a replacement can be found.

Meal delivery begins at 10:45 a.m. each Monday through Friday.

The meals are prepared and picked up at Covenant Hospital Plainview, which is located at 2601 Dimmitt  Highway, Plainview, Texas.

Each of the 11 routes are grouped according to locations, volunteers are provided with a map and cards in the right driving order with a picture of the meal recipient’s house on the back of each card.
